Orthodontic Mini-implants (TADS) are mini-screws placed in your jaw to help straighten your teeth. Having improperly structured teeth can lead to difficulty in cleaning your teeth. This condition may then lead to several dental issues such as carries.
After consultations with Dr. Soordhar at Oasis Dental or your orthodontist, you will be able to decide on whether to have the implants placed to rectify the condition. The advantages of having Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADS) placed are:
It is prudent to clean your mouth after having the orthodontic implants placed regularly. Infection could occur if you do not clean your implants and your mouth. The following are measures to take in cleaning your mouth:
i. For the first, five days after implantation, you will need to use a salt water rinse or chlorhexidine mouthwash, twice daily. The mouthwash is used to rinse the area around the mini-screw.
ii. No matter how tempted you are, you are not to fiddle the screw with your tongue or fingers.
iii. You need to brush the area around the mini-implants at least twice daily. Preferably, use a toothbrush with a small head and fluoride toothpaste. Remember to clean the area gently.
iv. You shouldn’t use electric toothbrush anywhere near the implants. This is because most implants are made of metal.
v. If at any time you feel the screws becoming very loose, inform Dr. Soordhar at Oasis Dental or your orthodontist immediately.
Use of TADS is very efficient, and they have a success rate of over 80%.
