What Type of Dentures for Me?

Knowing whether or not the time has come for dentures is a critical dental decision. Plus, dentures have come a long way since your grandma’s large set of false teeth. There are now a wide variety of options that you and Dr. Soordhar have at your disposal for replacing teeth. Removable partial denture, removable full dentures and permanent dentures are options, depending on your unique situation.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures provide a great option for patients who have lost several teeth, but who also have some strong, firmly anchored teeth remaining. Some partial dentures are removable.

  • In a partial denture that is removable, The remaining teeth can be used as anchor points to secure a partial denture in place.
  • A series of teeth are attached to a plate the same color as your gums, to help them look natural in your mouth.
  • The partial will be clamped onto your remaining teeth with clasps.
  • There are more hidden, natural looking attachments that can hold a partial denture in place. These are known as precision attachments.

Others, are permanent.

  • Permanent partial dentures are called bridges.
  • Bridges are suitable when there are two strong anchor teeth that the bridge can be built between.
  • Crowns are placed on the anchor teeth.
  • The bridge is made of false teeth that are anchored to the crowned teeth on either side.
  • Bridges tend to be more expensive than removable partials, but are more natural looking and feeling.

Permanent Dentures (Full Upper Jaw Implants or Full Lower Jaw Implants)

Permanent dentures are built on denture implants. An entire jaw can be rebuilt by installing teeth on dental implants along the complete line of the jaw. Unlike traditional dentures, these new teeth look and feel just like the real thing. The implant method of dentures is a permanent fix to the problem of missing teeth.

Implant Supported Dentures – Denture Implants

Denture implants are specialized anchors that are installed in the mouth to help hold dentures in place. Denture implants:

  • Provide stability, so that the wearer feels secure and isn’t worried about dentures sliding or falling out of place.
  • Make tasks that involve the mouth such as eating and speaking easier because there is less cause for fear of movement in the dentures.
