Orthodontics is the study of treatment and prevention of teeth and bite irregularities.
Dentofacial Orthopedics is the study of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and abnormalities of the head, neck and jaw musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves)
The results of orthopedic and orthodontic treatment can be dramatic — beautiful smiles, improved dental health and an enhanced quality of life for many people of all ages. Orthodontic and orthopedic problems, which can result from genetic and environmental factors, must be diagnosed before treatment begins. Proper diagnosis involves taking photographs, x-rays, and dental impressions, which enable our practice to make informative decisions about the form of treatment necessary.
Dentofacial Orthopedic Treatment allows for the correction alignment of the face, upper and lower jaw bones, and is completed first if needed to establish a correct foundation. Treatment typically lasts from 6 to 18 months months, depending on age and the severity of the orthopedic problem. This phase of treatment can avoid potential future jaw surgeries.
Orthodontic Treatment allows for the correction of teeth alignment and is completed after the Dentofacial Orthopedic Treatment. Orthodontic Treatment typically lasts from 12 to 18 months, depending on age and the severity of the orthodontic
problem.
Outstanding results are also dependent on maximizing the coordination of care between you and our practice. We are committed to delivering the best possible service in order for you to achieve your orthodontic objectives.
Dr. Anil Rick Soordhar and Dr. Sunil Vick Soordhar provides Orthodontic and Dentofacial Orthopedic Treatment for adults, adolescents and children.
We recommend a Orthodontic (teeth) and Dentofacial Orthopedic (face and jaw bone) evaluation take place at age 3 to 6 for all children. This early evaluation can help to determine the best time to begin any necessary treatment. Treating children early during their growth stages allows us to achieve results that may not be possible when face and jaw bones have fully developed. This early treatment can simplify or eliminate additional treatment for the child and potential future surgeries.
Orthodontic treatment for teens and adults can be started at anytime.
