Your procedure’s anesthetic may numb your lips, tongue and cheeks for up to several hours after your appointment.
Until the numbness has completely dissipated, avoid chewing or consuming any hot beverages. Many patients experience some degree of hot, cold or pressure sensitivity, in addition to soreness at the anesthetic injection sites. The numbness and heightened sensivitity can make it very easy to bite your tongue.
We recommend alleviating post procedure tenderness using Ibuprofen (Motrin), Tylenol or Aspirin. Contact us at (905) 876-2747 if pressure, sensitivity persists more than a few days after your procedure, your bite feels uneven, or if sensitivity to hot and/or cold increases.
You may chew with your composite fillings as soon as the anesthetic completely wears off, since they are fully set when you leave the office.
