Diagnosing TMJ Disorders can be difficult as it can mimic any type of head, neck, and facial pain, so often times a TMJ Disorder can be misdiagnosed as certain medical conditions.

Also, TMJ Disorders can be present at the same time as other medical conditions in the same person, this is known as comorbidity.  For example, someone with a TMJ Disorder can also have comorbid medical conditions such as migraines, headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain, tinnitus, dizzy spells, and vertigo.
